To mark our 50th anniversary, we partnered with award-winning Hawaiʻi artist Anuhea to reimagine our iconic jingle. Her voice, her artistry, and her aloha bring something truly special to a melody that's been part of the Mauna Loa story since 1976.

Half a century of sharing the world's finest macadamia nut

1882

THE FIRST SEEDS

Plant collector William H. Purvis brought macadamia seeds from Australia to Hawaiʻi, planting them on the Hāmākua Coast of Hawaiʻi Island. It was the first time macadamias had ever been cultivated outside their native range — and it set everything in motion.

1949

KEAʻAU BECOMES MACADAMIA LAND

The first tree was planted in 1949. Researchers at the University of Hawaiʻi developed the first high-yield macadamia cultivars, transforming the nut from a curiosity into a viable commercial crop. Large-scale orchards took root in Keaʻau, establishing it as the heart of Hawaiʻi's macadamia industry.

1976

THE MAUNA LOA BRAND IS BORN

Named after Hawaiʻi Island's iconic volcano, Mauna Loa launched in Keaʻau with one mission: share the world's finest macadamia nut. Those bright blue tins quickly became a symbol of Hawaiʻi itself — carried home by travelers, shared at celebrations, recognized everywhere.

2004

GROWING OUR REACH

Mauna Loa was acquired by The Hershey Company, expanding the brand's distribution and introducing macadamia nuts to new audiences around the globe.

2015

COMING HOME

Hawaiian Host acquired Mauna Loa, reuniting two Hawaiʻi-based icons under shared roots and a shared commitment to the islands.

2020–21

A NEW CHAPTER

Hawaiian Host Group was formed, and a reimagined Mauna Loa launched — honoring the brand's heritage while looking boldly toward the future.

2022

THE DOORS REOPEN

The Mauna Loa Visitor Center in Keaʻau welcomed guests back, inviting people from around the world to walk the orchards, learn the history, and taste macadamias at the source.

2023

MACFARMS JOINS THE OHANA

Hawaiian Host Group acquired MacFarms, deepening the group's commitment to Hawaiʻi-grown macadamias and strengthening the ecosystem from orchard to shelf.

2024

KAPUA ORCHARDS

HHG acquired Kapua Orchards on the Kona side of Hawaiʻi Island, one of the largest contiguous macadamia farms in the world. From orchard to oven to package — the legacy keeps growing.

2026
